ZAMBIA DAY 4

What a wonderful day in Maambo.  To see the beautiful faces of the people was more than words could ever say.  To see a trust that started with nothing becoming a self contained city within itself thriving, was such a blessing.  When you walk through the village and see the well, hammer mill and piggery, you can see so much hope, love, and belief in their eyes.  Words cannot describe the feeling I had to watch their faces light up with joy.

I would like to thank everyone from daybreak for their charitable contributions.  Their donations made my day very special.  God bless Daybreak.  Tomorrow we leave the guest house to go to Maambo at 7:30.  Sunday School starts at 9:00.  Church starts at 10:00.  Kris will be preaching and Claudia will be teaching children.  After church, we will say our goodbyes.

I am so humbled to see how God has used Daybreak with the leadership of Kris in Maambo;  To be greeted by the women singing their praises to God, hugging us with such love.  To be able to see a young mother’s heart, dying of aids while we show love to her children with a gift of a soccer ball, to pray for her.  Too many stories to share.  Pray for Kris as she shares the hope of Jesus.  Pray for the leadership of Maambo.  We love and miss you all!

ZAMBIA DAY 3

Hey big eight reporting here!  What a great dusty day we had today!!  We went to the village of chilimelime and what a great moving experience we had.  They served us a wonderful lunch of goat, goat liver, and chicken with shema, yummy!!  What an awesome day in my life!!  We were met with dancing and singing when we arrived. The kazoos were a big hit.  We greeted the villagers with a great rendition of amazing grace on the kazoos.  we took a tour of the village with the village board members and they showed us their vegetable garden, the water wells and goat couple.  As I am bloging, the other members of the team are packing the suitcases for Mambo for Saturday.  I tell you daybreakers, I am the only adult in the group!  They sit there bickering and yelling at each other as they listen to who is reading the list f supplies for tomorrows trip.  Can’t wait to go to Mambo tomorrow.

ZAMBIA 2011. TUESDAY 6/21/2011

It is 6:45 pm in Joberg, South Africa. We just checked into the hotel for the night. There is a Caraba like restaurant within walking distance that we will be eating at for dinner. I bet none of you can guess who is excited about eating tonight!
It was sort of an eventfull travel so far. First our flight was cancellrd to Chicago do to thunder storms so we rented 2 vans and drove to Ohara airport. Rick and Harv were the designated drivers as delegated by our team leader Kris Dekker. 6 out of the 8 made the flight to Dulles. Rick and Harv didn’t. We Had to patiently stand in line at the United ticket counter for 2 hours to rebook another flight to Dulles to get back to the team. The next flight was over booked but somehow we got on the flight, I think somone was watching out for us.
Tomorrow we will get up at 6 and fly out to Livingstone, Zambia. After we arrive in livingstone, we have a 3 hour ride tor Choma. But the hardest part of travel is done and e are looking forward to seeing our friends at World Hope.

HAITI UPDATE: THE LAST FULL DAY IN HAITI

20110417-052816.jpg

Today was the last full day for our team in Haiti. This morning was pretty relaxing we sat around until about 10am when the bus came to pick us up and take us back to Port-Au-Prince. We had Dave take us over to the Women’s and Children’s Center to see how much work they had gotten done over the last few days. They had one room completely tiled and painted the entire outside of the building and the metal grates on the windows.

Around 10am the bus came and picked us up and took us to Port-Au-Prince. We went on a small tour of downtown and saw the collapsed palace. Then we went up to the baptist mission to have a look around on the mountain. After we finished there we continued our way up the mountain to the lookout. There we could look out over Port-Au-Prince and the rest of Haiti to see just how big the country is. Throughout the day we stopped a few times at some shops along the road to do some gift shopping.

We went back to downtown Port-Au-Prince to meet up with Thony and eat at a restaurant called Hot and Fresh. We got some more American-like food (Cheeseburger and fries, ribs, and milkshakes).

When we finished dinner we headed back to Thony’s house for the night and relaxed. We are spending some time chatting with Thony and playing some games. We even helped him setup the new crib for his baby that we brought down. We are sleeping at Thony’s house tonight and getting up and heading to the airport tomorrow morning to head back to the US.

We are all excited to come back to the US and be able to share our experiences with everyone. Thanks for all your prayers and comments this week, it has been great to read them everyday. Please pray for safe travels home.

HAITI UPDATE: A DAY AT THE BEACH

20110416-080100.jpg

Today started with another session of VBS. We went to a school today and worked with about 125 kids today. We started off with them singing us some songs in Creole. After they finished singing to us we did our typical songs and bible story that we did yesterday. After that we handed out some art kits with construction paper, crayons, and stencils. After they did some drawings we passed out some paper bags and had them make some puppets. When they finished with their puppets we took them outside and played with some beach balls.

This afternoon we went out to a resort on the beach in Grand Goave. We spent the afternoon laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean. It was hard to believe that we were still in Haiti as we looked at the beautiful view that you see in the picture above. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner of seafood and salads that were amazing.

Tomorrow we are heading back to Port-Au-Prince to meet up with Thony. He is going to take us on a tour of the city and then we are going to stay at his house tomorrow night and head to the airport Monday.
