HAITI DAY 1

Day1 was acclimation day for us. The local World Hope Staff International (WHI) made us feel very welcomed. After dropping off relief supplies at WHI Hdqtrs we took a long ride thru Port Au Prince and saw the devastation first hand. Amazing…eye opening experience! We then checked into the WHI compound and had lunch and relaxed while trying to stay hydrated in 90+ temps. Beautiful sunny day here. Before dinner we had a nice hike through the neighborhood tent village and shared many hellos and smiles. This was the best part of the day! Rick, Cheryl was a trooper on the hike! We also played soccer, jumped rope and Jeff had a Creole language lesson by 7 year old Katrina. (See pic. Attached) tomorrow we plan to go to a damaged Weseyland Church for repair work and kids VBS time.

ON US SOIL?

Jordan's HomeWe made it to Miami a few minutes ago and it’s good to be “home”. We saw the Houghton team off at 6am and then we went for a long walk in the villages nearby. We stopped at Jourdan’s house. (see photo) He works for works for World Hope. He lives there with 15 others.

After our walk we packed up and cleaned up and spent time debriefing on the trip. Finally on the porch over looking Port-au-Prince we prayed for Haiti and each other. It was a great finish to a great week. It was a week that changed our lives forever. Thanks again for your prayers and comments. This will be our last blog. See you all soon!

WE ARE MINISTERED TO

Haiti Tent ServiceToday we attended services in a tent community right outside the place we are staying. We were ministered to in a big way. The service lasted about 3 hours and we were touched. They sang praises with passion and sincerity. As they sang one song in their language I recognized it as, “How Great Thou Art”. I started weeping. If they praise God that way with what little they have, then there is something wrong with me. How I want their faith!

After church we were able to present Bibles On Tape to the pastor of the church and they were greatly appreciated.

After church we visited the downtown area of Port-Au-Prince. It looked like a movie set. What devastation! It is impossible to describe what we saw. Everything is either damaged buildings, rubble or a tent city. Imagine that, just one of those three describe the city.
Between church and our trip to town we were able to interview our team and some of our interpreters. The video of it is very moving. Watch this page on the web. We hope to get it posted soon.

Thanks for prayers and comments. Pray for our journey home tomorrow. We fly out of here at 5pm.
I hope to get one more post out before we get home.

A DAY AT CITY SOLEI CHURCH

Day in Citi SoleiWe took our show on the road again today. We went to City Solei Church, which isn’t to far from where we’ve been working.

We spent the day with around 60 children teaching them how to be fishers of men. We had a great time coloring, making animals out of Pla-Doh and learning new songs in French Creole.

We gave the principal of the church school hundreds of supplies for the children. Perfect timing since school will start up next Monday for the first time since the quake. We also ran a clinic at the church and saw around 100 people.

Haitians are incredible people. They have nothing yet they are quick with a smile. It’s been very disturbing to see the conditions under which many of them live and then when we are alone it’s difficult not to break down.

Many have homes they could live in but they refuse to for fear of another earthquake. Please continue to pray for them. As always your prayers and comments sustain us.

A LOT DONE, A LOT TO GO

Haiti TeamWe went back in to “soccer city” today. Our medical team saw over 130 people again. They did an incredible job on a very warm day!

The rest of the team played “London Bridge is Falling Down”, bucket ball, tag and all kinds other games with over 250 children. Then they were taught how to let their light shine for Jesus. They loved the crayons and the pictures we brought for them to color.

We pulled out for the evening crying. Before we left we prayed over the “city” for God’s provision and protection. It was difficult to leave when they have nothing. We met John who took us to his tent. It was about 12′ x 12′ and there were 10 people living in there.

As I said, there is so far to go. I’m glad and proud that Daybreak has many more teams lined up to come down here. It is much needed!

We miss you all and need your prayers and read your comments every day.
