DAY 6 UPDATES

Today was the last day at the school. Words can’t describe the emotions that we all felt as we went through the day. We completed the the bathroom wall and roof today. It was amazing to see the finished project and how much something as small as that meant to them. They were truly greatful for what we had done there this week for the school and the church. We spent the afternoon hanging out with the kids for the last time while as we finished up the wall and roofing of the bathroom. The mom and the baby that had the fever came back today and picked up our tent that we had promised her. She had no place to stay since the eathquake hit. We listened to her story for quite a while, it was amazing. She is a monther of 7 and her husband died in the earthquake. She believes and trusts in God and prays everyday. She asked us to continue to pray for her and her family.

We met with people from the school and church in the afternoon and they thanked us for all of the help that we gave them over the course of this week. They were very greatful for what we had done for them and the Hatian people. There were so many emotionsn flowing in the room it is hard to describe in words exactly how we felt. Everyone from the church and our team were all grateful for what went on during the week. The church/school leaders presented us each with a gift from Haiti. This week was a blessing for both the school/chruch and our team. Everyone here in Haiti has welcomed us with open arms.

Tomorrow we are going to get up and go to a local church service here in Haiti and then Tony is going to take us on a tour of Haiti to see a little more of the town that we have not seen in our travels to and from the school.

DAY 5 UPDATES

Another day has gone by but not without impacting more people’s lives here in Haiti. It was a full and long day. The clinic saw over 50 people today, mostly kids. We performed a small “surgery” on a kids foot wth help from a local doctor. The baby from yesterday returned looking full of life. His temperature was down to 98 and he was eating the formula that we had given her yesterday.

There was great progress made on the wall today. We hired a local Hatian to help us with the construction of the wall and he was showing us how to mix cement and build a wall. We also cleared out the kitchen of rubble while we were waiting to work on the wall. The local Hatian was going to finish up the last bit of the wall after we left to head back to the compound for the night and that way we could begin to put the roof on tomorrow. We also have to teach our last VBS lesson for the week to the kids and say goodbye to them because on Sunday we are going to church right outside of the compound and Tony is going to take us on a tour of PaP.

We got the first day of rain here today and last night. This made for an interesting tap tap ride to and from the compound up and down the muddy, wet mountain side. We got a new tap tap driver yesterday and today he put speakers in the back so that we could listen to some upbeat Hatian music that added to the adventure of our rides through the busy city streets. It’s hard to believe that it is already Thursday, we all seem to have lost track of what day it is down here. The week has flown by and we will be home to be able to share our stories personally very soon. Thanks everyone for all of your comments we share them everynight after dinner and devotions, it’s great encouragement for us this week while we are down here.

DAY 4 UPDATES

The day started out with a wonderful breakfast of eggs on a sandwich. Then we headed into PaP to have another eventful day at the school. We started off day at the school with VBS and he story of David and Goliath. The kids loved it. We got to sing more songs with them in both English and Creo. Our activity for the day with the kids was playdough and face painting. Everyone wanted to get their faces painted with different designs and lots of colors. They loved making things out of the playdough and giving it to us to see what we would make out of it for them.

After VBS we started seeing a few people in the clinic that we told to come back from yesterday. There was one lady that brought her kid back from yesterday. Here young son of 5 months had a fever of 101. Yesterday we gave him some water and motrin to bring the fever down a bit. Today she brought him back and he had a fever of 103. We started cooling him off by soaking him in a bucket and running cold water over him. We gave him more motrin and lots of water to drink. By the time we were done his temp had dropped to 98. We told her to bring his son back tomorrow so that we could check on him again. Please pray for her and her son.

During the afternoon we finished tearing down the back wall of the bathroom and got all of the needed supplies to start buildings tomorrow. During the afternoon we played games with the kids and talked with some local Haitian’s and heard their stories. This week has been a blessing for all of us so far and I’m sure that it will continue to be for both us and the Hatians that we are coming in contact with. Thank you for all of your prayers and support we cam feel them all the way down here and God is doing wonderful things through us. With your support we are impacting so may people’s lives.

DAY 3 UPDATEA

Today was the first full day of working. The day started off in an interesting way. On our way in we had a flat tire in our tap-tap and had to pull into the middle of the road and wait for our driver to go and get another tire and change it out. Once we got there we were greeted by a mass of kids and their parents who were all excited for us to be back.

We started off the day with VBS. We started the VBS by introducing ourselfs to the kids and telling them the story of Christ. After the story we sang a couple of songs with them. They thought we were crazy doing our hand motions with the songs, they just pointed and laughed at us. Then we brought out the coloring books and the cryaons to let all of the kids color. We also bounced around a giant beach ball with the kids they had a blast.

After the hour of VBS we started up the clinic and tearing down the wall. We checked out 30 kids/parents today in the clinic. We helped them with their problems and prayed with them. Some of the guys worked with on tearing down the bathroom wall so that we can start rebuilding it. Tomorrow we are goin to finish seeing the rest of the people at the clinic and get the supplies and start building the wall back up.

DAY 2

Well another day is coming to an end. We went to the market this morning and talked to people in the morning on our way to PaP. Then we headed into PaP to see the school and assess what we could do there this week.

We are going to work with kids at the school tomorrow. We are going to setup a small clinic to check out the kids and host a VBS for the kids with games and a bible story. We met all of the kids today at the school and they were amazing, they all love to play hand games (thumb wars and hand slapping) and just following us around.

We cleared out the school today, moved bricks out and stacked them in a pile. Nobody had even moved anything from the school since the day of the earthquake.

On our way home we stopped at the store to pick up some candy for the kids for VBS tomorrow. And now we are just relaxing a little bit this afternoon and planning out what to do with the kids tomorrow. On Thursday and Friday we are planning on building a wall back around the school’s bathroom.

DAY 1 UPDATES

So we have made it to Haiti safely. We are being housed just out side of PaP in the world hope mission compound. We will be communting into PaP everyday to work in Citi Soleli. We are going to be assessing a school tomorrow and will more than likely primarily be working there. We will be trying to clear down a wall and help to rebuild it and host a VBS for the kids. We also have a few followup visits on medical care later in the week. Had a great dinner prepared by the hatians tonight as we will every night.
